Important Documents You MUST Have!
These are things that every tax preparer should ask for, regardless of filing status:
Photo ID and Social Security Card
All official document supporting income from all sources
W-2, 1099, 1099-R, 1099-NEC, ect.
Copy of prior year tax return (if applicable)
Bank information to remit tax refund
Additional Supporting Documents
Do you have dependents | Did you attend School | Do you make contributions to an HSA
Child Care Expenses
Medical expenses
Receipts for Charitable Donations
1098-T Education Expenses
Property and Sales Tax Paid, etc.
It is common practice for tax preparers to ask for additional supporting documents before finalizing a return. Providing them ahead of time will help expedite the filing process.
DON'T FORGET!!
Always remember to Sign your return and ask the preparer for a PDF or Print copy!!
Also make sure the preparer sign the return with their personal PTIN (preparer tax identification number) to help protect against Tax Fraud.
